These days I’m focusing particularly on thriller book covers. These covers stand out from other genres for multiple reasons. Meanwhile, let’s think about the dramatic atmosphere, a little dark and mysterious that characterize the genre. Indie authors who write thriller novels know what I mean. Usually, to make these covers more dramatic, I like to apply a grunge texture to the end of the composition to make it even more dramatic. When I design this kind of covers usually, if there is a character on the cover, I try to make him mysterious, I try to obscure his face, at least partially, or even use a silhouette to leave the reader with the task of fantasizing about the character. Another feature is the type of fonts that suit this kind of cover. I usually use Sans serif, possibly bold. I also try to apply a dramatic style to the text. Then, of course, this depends on the needs of the author, but this is my preference as a designer.
